Ireland an Emerald Gem

11/04/2016

If we were to list everything we liked about Ireland it would probably end up as a book !. It has virtually everything the discerning traveler would want. Stunning scenery, from the Giants Causeway in the North to the windswept coast of the West. You can drink a cold Guinness at the Brewery in Dublin or have a flutter on the horses at the week-long party that is Galway Races.

We thought we would aid the tourist's note book by pointing them in the direction of a few notable annual events:

Sligo Live Music Festival in October. This is a unique combination of Irish Folk, Roots, and Indie Music. Unusually the settings for music are very often in pubs and other smaller venues rather than the classic concert halls 100 performances by 400 artists over 20 stages, and 80% are free 1. This festival is a must for the music lover.

Guinness Cork Jazz Festival also in October.A four-day event over 70 venues and 90% free. Music is day and night in this lively city.Ella Fitzgerald and Herbie Hancock have played here, and the event is very popular with American tourists.

Cork Film Festival in November. We make no apologies for staying in Cork for a second visit. In 2015 239 films were screened. The event focuses on contemporary cinema and is one of Irelands Premier film events.

Dublin Gallery Weekend. November. 30 galleries are hosting 60 events. The best of Irish Art.

New Years Eve in Dublin. There is live music in the heart of the City plus Music and Arts Trails that showcase all that is new and best about the City's burgeoning Cultural and Music Scene.

We head North of the border now to look at two special places that have put Northern Ireland on the world map, and they can be visited all year round.
Belfast hosts the Titanic Museum and the world famous Iron Throne from Game of Thrones. The Titanic was built in Belfast and Game of Throne is partly filmed at the aptly named Titanic Studios.

Relax and Enjoy !.

Getting there: Dublin, Belfast,Knock,Derry and Cork are major airports.British Airways, Aer Lingus and United Airlines service these airports, plus there are a number of Budget Airlines particularly Easyjet and Ryanair.
