United Airlines to begin Denver-London Gatwick Flight

In a significant move, American aviation major player United Airlines has announced a new route from Denver Colorado to London Heathrow.United has been flying from Denver for eighty years, but this is the first time recently that they will have a direct non-stop flight to London. United has flown 6.5 million flights from Denver over the years and carried 580 million customers.

United Airlines did have a Denver-London service between 2008 and 2011, but this was discontinued as United could not get the profitable mix of business and leisure customers. However, with the new aircraft flying the route, the efficiency savings and seat combination, it seems this will make the flight a money-spinner.

Details of the New Route

At the moment the route will operate from the 25th March until October 27th, 2018. A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner will provide the service, and a variety of seat classes will be offered including 183 Economy including 70 Economy Plus (a relatively new concept more expensive than Economy but with more space and legroom) and 36 flat bed seats in Business Class (there are 219 seats in total).

A key advantage of the Economy Plus seats is that they are located near the front of the plane, and therefore it is easier to exit the aircraft on arrival. United Economy class offers complimentary food and drink and an adjustable headrest, as well as a personal on-demand entertainment system.

The flight times are as follows; the plane leaves Denver at 17.35 and lands at London Heathrow at 09.40, the next day The return flight leaves London Heathrow at 11.40 and lands at 14.30. All in all the flights are at pretty convenient times.

Many Advantages in using Denver Airport

The advantage of traveling to Denver Airport is that it is a regional hub for United, and therefore supports many onward connections across the U.S.A. Eighty domestic destinations can be reached from the 'Mile High City,' as Denver is called.United operates 748 aircraft in its main fleet and has the worlds most comprehensive route network. They have 4,500 flights per day across five continents and 338 airports.

Norwegian continues to expand in further transatlantic news.

Just when you thought things had gone a little quiet with low-cost carrier Norwegian, they continue to astound with the announcement of new routes for 2018 from Chicago and Austin, Texas to London Gatwick. Like United Airlines, Norwegian will be utilizing the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners with a large Economy cabin.

Austin Bergstrom International Airport

The flights to Austin-Bergstrom International airport will be three times a week and year round. Currently, only one other airline flies this route so that the competition will be welcomed. Both flights will commence in March 2018. Austin will now have cheap flights to the U.K.

Background to Norwegian at London Gatwick Airport

Norwegian launch its first flights from London Gatwick in July 2014 with services to three U.S. cities, remarkably it now operates routes to 13 global destinations (including nine U.S. hubs). The rapid expansion is mainly due to a competitive low-cost business model and identifying destinations with few or sometimes only one airline serving. The bottom line is that the expansion means more cheap flights across the Atlantic.

Why Austin and Chicago?

Austin is the state capital of Texas and is a lively and vibrant city with excellent restaurants and nightlife, as well as a great music scene; it is also a high-tech center. Chicago is the third biggest metropolis in the U.S.A. as well as being an attractive destination in its own right, it offers a vast range of domestic connections.

London Gatwick Airport

On the other side of the pond, London Gatwick offers flights into Europe and beyond. Gatwick is located about 40 miles from the center of London and has great connections by road, bus, and rail. The airport is located just off the southern section of the M25, London's orbital Motorway, on the road to Brighton. Most buses from the airport run into London Victoria coach station, but there are buses to all parts of the UK and a shuttle bus that stops at all the main London airports.
