09/16/2016
With the beginning of autumn some of Europe`s largest airlines have announced that they will operate new routes outside the continent. First in the long list of airlines is British Airways. The most notable route, which will be operated by the English company is a new flight from London `s Heathrow to Tokyo`s Haneda airport. The first flights will begin in February 2011. British Airways will operate this flight five times a week. Haneda airport is situated near the business district of Tokyo, and the new route could prove quite attractive to corporate travelers. British Airways will also increase the number of weekly flights from Tampa, FL to Gatwick to seven. The increase in flights is scheduled for summer 2011.
At the same time Air France announced that it will open up a brand new line which is going to connect Paris and Orlando. The new service aims at the 50 000 French tourists that visit the city each year. The new European route can also mean new possibilities for Orlando International Airport. The new line will start with three round trips weekly from the beginning of next summer.
And after British Airways and Air France announced their new routes, it was only natural that another large European airline will do the same. Lufthansa is preparing to relaunch five direct flights a week from Frankfurt Airport to Colombian capital city Bogota. This will mark the returning of the German airline in the Andean nation after eight years of absence. Lufthansa decided to restart the route because of Bogota`s growth as a business and financial capital in Latin Amrica.
Speaking of Latin America, Spanish airline Iberia will introduce new services in the beginning of October to the continent. According to press releases coming from the company, new routes will include a Madrid – San Salvador flight four times a week. This route will include a short touch down in Guatemala on the way to El Salvador although the return line will be non stop. Iberia is offering a new flight to Panama City which will become non stop as well.
Swiss airline Edelweiss Air is planning a Trans-Atlantic flight too. Airline authorities say that plans for a new route from Zurich to Whitehorse and on to Anchorage is scheduled for as early as next May. Edelweiss Air is already operating two routes to Canada from this summer – Zurich to Calgari and Zurich to Vancouver. Representatives from the Swiss airline have yet to meet and talk to Yukon and Alaskan local governments.

The Icelandic airline will increase its services between Seattle and Reykjavik from four to six flights a week from the beginning of 2011. A new route to Finland`s capital Helsinki will start from June. Icelandair stepped into Seattle after Scandinacian Airlines have decided to end its Copenhagen-Seattle route.
