St. Peter and Paul Church

St. Peter and Paul Church - the church was built in 1416 in neolitical style by trade of saints Peter and Paul. Inside and outside the church was painted after the model of the coronation church in Budapest and her current look is due to changes made between 1844-1848. In 1977 church was fully restored.

St. Peter and Paul Church is one of the most beautiful Cluj-Napoca Tourist Attractions. This city is set in western Romania. It has been a major trade as well as entertainment center of this country for a long time now. There are many places of interest set in various corners of this city and St. Peter and Paul Church, Cluj-Napoca is one of them.

This area of the city used to be St. Peter village. According to documents dating from 1416 a church was built in honor of St. Peter and Paul. The present day Neo-Gothic church was built between 1844-1848 over the crypt of the old church. The interior painting is the work of Károly Szatmáry, who had been instructed by Hübner, a master of arts and crafts. The painting was modeled on the crowning church in Buda. Until 1899 the gate with the St. Michael statues belonged to St. Michael church. The seven figures are the work of Johannes König, and were made in memory of the plague epidemics between 1738-1742. The Virgin Mary statues located behind the church were also made after the plague. The group of statues is the work of Mihály Antal.

This church was named after the two apostles named Peter and Paul. This church has a Gothic design. It was constructed during the years 1844 and 1848. The construction of the St. Peter and Paul Church in Cluj-Napoca was done on the base of the previous church.

The impressive portal at the entryway was constructed by a priest named Biro Jozsef. The construction of the St. Peter and Paul Church at Cluj-Napoca was put in effect after the Black Death hit this town from 1738 to 1742. You will find a statue of Saint Archangel Michael at the entryway here. It is set in the center just above the entryway. On the western side of this statue you will find the statue of John the Baptist, Saint Sebastian as well as Saint Charles Borromei.

On eastern side of this entryway you will find the statues of Saint John the Evangelist, Saint Rocus as well as Saint John Nepomuc. The entryway was places here in the year 1899. It was previously kept at St. Michael's Church. The entryway of St. Peter and Paul Church at Cluj-Napoca has been recently furbished up.


You will find the statue of St. Mary in St. Peter and Paul Church in Cluj-Napoca. This statue is a lovely and valuable baroque work of art. This statue was sculpted by Schenbauer Antal. Schenbauer made this sculpture for the consul named Kornis Antal in the year 1744. This statue was transfered from its original place which was at the crossway of Kogalniceanu and Universitatii Streets. The statue now is set in the yard at the backside of this church in the year 1961.
