Svirzh Castle
Svirzh Castle together with Olesko, Zolochiv and Pidhirtsi castles consist “A golden horseshoe” of touristic route around the castles of Lviv region.
Svirz Castle is a fortified aristocratic residence in Svirzh, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. It was originally built by the Świrzski noble family in the 15th century. Inside the castle is a small church dating from 1546. The stronghold was completely rebuilt in the 17th century at the behest of its new owner, Count Aleksander Cetner. It is believed that General Paweł Grodzicki was responsible for the modernisation of the castle's fortifications.

Though surrounded on all sides by moats, lakes, and marshes, the fort was taken by the rebellious Cossacks on several occasions. In 1648, the Turks set it on fire; they were less successful during the Lwow raid of 1672.The castle stood in ruins for many years. It was restored in 1907, only to be devastated by fire in 1914. Rebuilding and restoration have occurred on several occasions since.
A defensive fortress is built on the mountain and connected with the outer world by a strong lift bridge. Majestic and wonderful Svirzh Castle will surprise you with its original interior, a marvelous stone Kostel, and a wonderful façade and coats of arms of owners above the gates. You will plunge into inimitable beauty of picturesque landscape of ascetic rocks, boundless flats, crystal lakes, marshes, mirror ponds and deep forests.
Staying here you will feel basically different aura. The castle is under strong energetic protection of ancient settlement dwelling here since III century. Part of a complex featuring a rare renaissance cathedral, this fortress dates back to the early borderland encroachments of the Lithuanians in the 14th century. Its picturesque location make it an ideal spot for a picnic under the castle walls by the edge of the nearby lake.
Svirzh Castle is located in the eponymous village, 40 km from Lvov in the Peremishlyani. The castle was built in 1482, then the settlement had the status of the city, in our days Svirzh - just a big village, through which flows the river Svirzh.
