Kichkine Palace

07/07/2016

The " Kichkine ” Palace (from the Persian word for a baby) was built between 1908 and 1911 on Cape Ai-Todor in Gaspra by three brothers Trasov - local architect, designer, furniture manufacturer.

Tatiana Konstantinovna was the niece of the Great prince Dmitri Konstantinovich (1860-1919), who owned the charming palace "Kichkine". The Princess Tatiana was the only member of the large family of the Great Prince Konstantin Konstantinovich (famous poet, who used the pen-name " K.R." - Konstantin Romanov) whose marriage was morganatic.

The feeling of the young Princess of the blood and the Georgian Prince Konstantin Bagration-Moukhranski overcame the strict laws of marriage of the reigning dynasty, and they were betrothed in the Church of Intercession in Livadiya in the spring of 1911.

Kichkine" palace was built in 1908-1911 on the Ai-Todor cape in Gaspra, not far from Avrorina rock, on with two years later the famous "Swallow's nest" was built. There is nothing more debated in Crimean architecture, than this "Baby" (it is the meaning of the word from Crimean-tatar language). It is often to be heard, that the building is properties adorned. Others consider, that there is no more original silhouette on the whole seaside and nothing could be compared with this East fairy-tale, composed by architects' flight of fantasy.

The building is interesting, original and causes contradictory feelings. It is really masker - a Russian merchant, dressed in Turk, but he looks very picturesque in these clothes.

The palace represents an original element of the special tatar’s architecture. The famous Crimean architect, Tarasov N.P. designed the unusual construction for the Grand Prince Dmitry Konstantinovich Romanov, the grandson of Nicholas I. Now, The Kichkine Palace is one of the main resorts in Crimea and is recognised as one of the most interesting construction with pseudo-Moorish design in Crimea. The Palace ensembles a parkland, which was created by professionals from the Nikitsky Botanical Garden. Here you can enjoy a clean and accurate air and wonderful landscapes to the sea and green park.

The Palace’s territory is divided in two areas: the south-west area covers the park with various treess, tropical plants and the north-east area, which represents the palace with a front yard. The palace, is surrounded by a fabulous park, and to the sea coast by a staircase, which leads to wonderful alleys and open galleries. The locals and the tourists affirm that if you could observe the Palace building from the sea, on the coast there isn’t anything more spectacular and impressive then the original Kichkine Palace, a solemn fairy place on eastern coat of Crimea. You can get there by direct flight to Simferopol or through Kiev or Odessa.
