The zoo in Barcelona is located in the city park. Ranked among the top zoos in Spain, it has open enclosures, allowing you to almost touch the animals. There is an infant zoo where children can be introduced to various animals.

His memory lives on in Barcelona, and especially in the zoo in the form of Snowflake's Grant. The goal for this grant is to aid research on primates in memory and tribute to the famous gorilla.

The zoo houses over 7,000 animals belonging to 400 species, including a rare albino gorilla. Barcelona Zoo is one of the most successful Zoos in the world in breeding different species in captivity.

The zoo also participates in various international and European breeding programs and maintenance of endangered species. A fun day out for all the family beckons at Barcelona Zoo. Heavily involved in education, conservation and research projects, Barcelona Zoo is a very prestigious sanctuary as well as being great fun for visitors. Elephants, lions, kangaroos, giraffes and zebras ensure no one goes home disappointed, and there's a pleasant surprise for lovers of marine mammals too - the zoo boasts a pod of dolphins who perform acrobatic shows at 11:30am, 1:30pm and 4:30pm each day. Sadly the zoo's most famous resident, Snowflake the albino gorilla, died in 2003 but many of his (non-albino) offspring live on! Tickets are 16 euros and the zoo is open from 10am to 5pm during winter, and until 7pm during summer. Barcelona Zoo is easy to get to by Metro, the nearest station being Barceloneta (L4) and Arc de Triomf (L1). You can get there via direct flight to Barcelona or to Girona, Reus or Lleida–Alguaire.
