Baggage information
Free baggage allowances regarding size, weight, and quantity of baggage vary with passenger itinerary, seating class, and membership grade. Please confirm the free baggage allowance that pertains to you prior to departure.
Checked baggage allowances (per passenger)
Flights To/from/via USA, US territories, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, South America (via Pacific)
First Class - 2 Pieces (max. 32kg/70lbs per piece). Each piece must be within 158cm/62ins in size;
40kg for other routes
Prestige Class - 2 Pieces (max. 32kg/70lbs per piece). Each piece must be within 158cm/62ins in size;
40kg for other routes and within Korea.
Economy Class - 2 Pieces (max. 23kg/50lbs per piece) and may not exceed 158cm/62ins in size; For travel from/to Brazil economy class passengers are allowed two pieces of baggage provided that the dimensions (the sum of the length, height, and width) of each bag do not exceed 158cm/62ins, the weight of each bag does not exceed 32kg/70lbs, and further, that the sum of the dimensions of the two bags does not exceed 273cm/107ins). 20kg for other routes and within Korea.
Children (under 12 years of age) - Adult restrictions apply.
Infants (under 2 years of age) - 1 piece with a size of less than 115cm/45ins and maximum weight of 10kg/22lbs+1 collapsible stroller, portable cradle, or child car seat. (the same allowance for other routes)
For flights within Korea - 1 from either a collapsible stroller, portable cradle, or child car seat
Carry-On Baggage Per Passenger
First, Prestige Class - 2 pieces up to 18kg, allowed size is 55 + 40 + 20 (cm) or a total sum of less than 115cm/45ins per piece
Economy class - 1 piece + 1 additional is permitted such as a laptop computer, briefcase, handbag, etc. up to 12 kg, size 55 + 40 + 20 (cm) or a total sum of less than 115cm/45ins per piece
All passengers flying to United States and/or connecting to a U.S. Domestic Flight, regardless of seating class, are limited to one piece of carry-on baggage and one additional permitted item.
All carry-on baggage must be stored in an overhead bin or under a seat. Passengers sitting in an emergency row must store their carry-on baggage in an overhead bin.
Prohibited Items
The following items are prohibited from carriage into the cabin.
Sharp and Pointy Objects such as umbrellas with pointy tips, razors, eyebrow trimmers, scissors, nail clippers, handicraft needles, knitting needles, arrows, darts, forks, gimlets, ski poles, Swiss Army knives, drills, saws, wrenches/spanners, hammers, hypodermic needles, corkscrews, etc.
Blunt Instruments golf clubs, fishing rods, baseball bats, hockey sticks, skateboards, billiard cues, etc.
Kitchen Knives paring knives, cutting knives, etc. (Length of knife limits may vary by country.)
Excess baggage
Excess baggage fee may vary depending on departing countries.
For Korea domestic flights the charge is 3% of adult one-way normal fare per 1kg/2lbs
To/from/via USA, US territories, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, South America (via Pacific) -
1) Extra Piece of Baggage
Each extra piece (maximum 32kg/70lbs) in excess of the 2 piece free baggage allowance will be charged an applicable excess baggage fee.
2) Overweight Baggage
Economy class :
Overweight baggage within the 2 piece free baggage allowance weighing between 23kg/50lbs ~ 32kg/70lbs will be charged at the rate of:
- KRW 50,000 if departing from Korea
- USD 50 if departing from the U.S.
- CAD 60 if departing from Canada
Outside Americas - 1.5% of adult one-way normal IATA Published fare from origin to destination per 1kg/2lbs.

Pets
Pets into the cabin
According to type, pets may be carried into the cabin or must be checked-in. Korean Air permits small household pets, such as dogs, cats, birds, etc., no more than 5kg in weight. If a pet exceeds 5kg, it must be checked in. Small pets must be placed in cages and stored under the seat in front of the passenger, and are not allowed in emergency rows or aisles.
As regulations regarding the transport of pets can vary by country, passengers should confirm what documents, such as quarantine certificates, health certificates, rabies immunization reports, etc., are required, and should prepare them accordingly.
Containers must meet the following:
- Enough space that allows the pet to sit, stand, and move around without difficulty
- Firm containers made from metal, wood, plastic, etc.
- Equipped with air ventilator, locks (must be able to open from the outside in the
case of an emergency), water resistance
- Lined with paper, a cloth towel, blanket, etc.
- Containers with owner’s name and contact information written clearly on the outside
Pet Transport Fees: The transport of pets is subject to fixed excess baggage charges regardless of personal baggage allowances.
