Children information
Do I need to reserve a seat for my infant?
Children up to 2 years old (24 months), are not required to have their own seat. You must, however, inform Kenya Airways that you will be traveling with an infant on your lap. Lap children can only be held by passengers who are at least 15 years of age.
Only one lap child is allowed per adult. If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under 2 years of age, a seat will have to be purchased for each additional infant. A child up to 2 years old (24 months) is usually charged 10% of an adult fare plus taxes, even if the infant will be on the lap of another passenger for the flight.
You can also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.
Will I pay for my infant to travel domestically?
A child under 2 years old (24 months) can travel for free as long as the infant will be on the lap of another passenger for the flight.
What if my child turns 2 on the trip; will I have to buy a ticket for the return flight?
Yes, a ticket will have to be purchased for any flight on which the infant will be over 2 years old.
Infant amenities
They vary by aircraft. When you're on the airplane page, look for the Infant Amenity Icon. If it is present, clicking on it will tell you what infant services are available on that airplane. If you do not see it, infant amenities are not offered on that aircraft. You can always contact Kenya Airways for more information.
Baby food is available on Kenya Airways flights provided one has made a prior booking. Baby Cots are also available but due to space limitations on the aircraft, they are provided on a first-come-first-served basis. So, book early.
Pets
Pet travel services
The carriage of pets in the aircraft cabin is not permitted.
All Pets will have to be accepted as Cargo with an Airway bill and all the other necessary documentation.
As advance arrangements for pet travel services are required, please alert your travel agent or local KENYA AIRWAYS office at the time of booking that you will be traveling with your pet to ensure an easy journey for all. Our staff will check on space availability and provide advice on the regulations and requirements for the carriage of pets to your country of destination and/or transit points.
Charges:
Pets - together with their containers - will be treated as Cargo with an airway bill and all other necessary documentation.
Interline Carriage:
When interline carriage is involved, please note that on-carriage of pets must comply with other carrier's rules and regulations.
Documents and Health Requirements:
Please ensure that you have the following documents ready for your pet, at least seven days prior to departure:
- Valid export/import permits from the relevant governments of your destination/transit countries.
- Valid airway bill
- Valid health and rabies vaccination certificates from appropriate government authorities of your destination/transit countries.
- Any additional or special documents that may be required by governments of your destination/transit countries
Note: Please also ensure that your pet meets the appropriate quarantine requirements. Your pet may be subjected to quarantine on arrival at your expense. The quarantine period may vary, at the discretion of your destination(s) veterinary authorities.
Container Requirements
The design and construction of the container must conform to IATA LIVE ANIMALS REGULATIONS. In general, you will have to provide your pet with a correct-sized, well-ventilated, and leak-proof container which meets the following requirements:
- Enough space for them to turn about normally while standing
- Enough space for them to stand and sit erect and lie in a natural position
- Adequate ventilation on at least 3 sides (with the majority of the ventilation on the upper part of the container)
- Food and water troughs accessible for replenishment from outside of the container
- If wooden crates are used, the sides must be at least 0.5 inch thick
Suitable pet containers are usually available in most professional pet stores. Feeding and watering instructions must be affixed to the container. As our handling agents would like to address your pet by their name, it would be useful if you could indicate your pet's name on the container, as well.
