Children information
Do I need to reserve a seat for my infant?
Children up to two years old (24 months), are not required to have their own seat as these children may sit on an adult's lap. Only one lap child is allowed per adult. If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under two years of age, a seat will have to be purchased for the second infant. You can also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.
What types of child restraint devices are allowed?
Passengers traveling with infants may bring on board an approved child seat, provided that there are free seats on the flight. Passengers can ensure a seat for a child seat by purchasing the child fare. The child seat must be designed for attachment to a seat with a 2-point belt (normal seat belts on passenger seats in aircraft). Child seats that are specifically designed for attachment with 3-point belts (normal seat belts in cars) may not be used. The child seat must meet at least one of the following conditions:
- The child seat is approved for use in vehicles in accordance with the European Standard ECE R44-03 or later amendments.
- The child seat is approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft in accordance with the US Standard US FMVSS No. 213 and has been manufactured according to this standard as of 26 February 1985. Child seats that meet US requirements must have the following label in red lettering: 1) "This child restraint system conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards" and 2) "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft".
- The child seat is approved for use in aircraft in accordance with the German Standard on "Qualification Procedure for Child Restraint Systems in Aircraft" (TUV Doc.:/958-01/2001).
- The child seat is approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft in accordance with the Canadian Standard CMVSS 213/213,1.
Will I pay for my infant to travel?
Yes, a child up to two years old (24 months) is usually charged 10% of an adult fare plus taxes if he or she will be sitting on an adult's lap.
What if my child turns two on the trip; will I have to buy a ticket for the return flight?
Yes, a ticket will have to be purchased for any flight on which the infant will be over two years old.
Can I sit in the exit row with my infant?
Neither lap children nor infants in car seats are allowed in an exit row. In fact, all passengers in an exit row must be at least 15 years of age. In addition, infant seats are not allowed in the row directly in front of or directly behind an exit.
Infant baggage allowance
Infants not entitled to a seat shall be allowed 10 kg (22 lb) and in addition one checked or carry on fully collapsible stroller/pushchair or infants carrying basket.
Pets
Pets policy
All pets transported on Icelandair travel in specially climate controlled transport areas in the cargo area of the aircraft. Escort, rescue, and sniffer dogs may be carried in the cabin, however they must also be booked in advance.
Restriction for travelling with a pet
A maximum of 4 animal crates can be carried on each aircraft, however two animals can share a crate if both are small and of the same species. The passenger must provide their own pet crate. The charge for pet transport is the excess baggage charge applicable to the destination.
NOTE: Many countries require a mandatory quarantine of pets upon entry. It is the responsibility of the passenger to determine the requirements of the country being entered. Please contact the embassy of your destination to determine if travel with your pet is permitted before you book your pet.
Pets must be booked in advance in the passenger's reservation.
To book your pet for transport please contact the reservation office located nearest to you. When booking your pet for transport, you will be required to provide the exact dimensions and weight of the crate including the pet inside for a confirmation.
