Children information
Infant Travel on Delta
Only one lap child is allowed per adult. If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under 2 years of age, a seat will have to be purchased for each additional infant. You can also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device. Delta offers these seats at discounted fares.
Can I sit in the Exit Row with my infant?
Federal Aviation Administration regulations state that no lap children or infant seats are allowed in an Exit Row and that all passengers in an Exit Row must be at least 15 years of age. In addition, infant seats are not allowed in the row directly in front of or directly behind an exit.
When a ticket is Not required
You can travel with one infant in your lap without a purchasing a ticket if:
- The infant is less than two years old, AND
- You are at least 18 years old or the infant's legal guardian, AND
- Your travel is within the U.S. For infants under the age of two and held in the adult's lap, the cost is usually about 10% of the adult fare plus any international taxes and surcharges, which can be significant
When a ticket Is required
You'll need to purchase a ticket for your child when you:
- Have a child that is age two or older.
- Prefer the child to sit in a seat in order to travel in an approved restraint.
- Have a second child, regardless of age, and you already have a child who will be sitting in your lap.1
- Want your child to earn miles in his SkyMiles account.
- Will be traveling between countries regardless of whether or not the child occupies a seat.
Child Fares & Special Discounts
Travel Within U.S.
Delta does not offer discounted infant and child fares within the U.S.
Travel Between Countries
You may find discounted child fares when traveling outside the U.S. or when traveling between certain countries. The price of the ticket will depend on the age of the child. Taxes & fees may also apply to infants held in the adult's lap.
Pets
There are several different options available to transport your pet: bring with you into the cabin, checked as baggage, or being shipped.
Some states may require a health certificate for your pet. Your veterinarian, the U.S. Department of Agriculture at 800-545-8732 800-545-8732, or the Department of Agriculture of the state you are traveling to may provide you with more information.
Pets As Carry On
Dogs, cats and household birds are permitted in the cabin if:
- Your pet is small enough to fit comfortably in a kennel under the seat directly in front of you. Maximum carry-on kennel dimensions are determined by your flight. contact Delta Reservations
- Your pet remains inside the kennel (with door secured) while in a Delta boarding area, at Delta airport lounge, and while onboard the aircraft.
- Your pet is at least 8 weeks old.
Restrictions:
- If you're traveling to Hawaii, your pet won't be able to go with you in the cabin, and other restrictions may apply. See Pets to Hawaii for more information.
- You may not carry on more than one pet. Your pet in-cabin counts as one piece of carry-on baggage.
Exception: Two pets of the same type may be allowed in one kennel, for example two dogs or two cats. They must be small enough to fit in one kennel provided they are compatible and must be of the same species, size and each weigh less than 20 pounds; and they must meet the requirements of acceptance. They will be charged as one pet.
Pets are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call Delta in advance at 800-221-1212 to arrange to bring your pet on board.

- Cats, dogs, household birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters are accepted as checked baggage.
- Primates, including lemurs, monkeys, orangutans, gorillas, and chimpanzees will not be permitted (excluding service animals).
