Each piece of baggage must not exceed 23kg. Baggage over 32kgs will not be accepted. If the baggage is less than 32kgs, it will be charged NZ$50 oversize bag fee if unable to be repacked into another bag (where additional baggage fees will apply).

Smart Saver - 1 piece, maximum 23 kg
Flexi Plus - 2 pieces, maximum 23 kg each

For all domestic flights:
- In addition to other allowances, baby strollers and car seats are permitted free of charge
- Medical/life equipment as well as a maximum of two wheel chairs are carried free when accompanied by the person who requires them
- Separately bagged sports equipment counts as one piece

For all flights:
- In addition to other allowances, strollers and car seats are permitted free of charge.
- Any piece of baggage that weighs over 23kg but less than 32kg will be subject to an overweight charge.
- The maximum weight limit of 32kg (70lbs) for any individual piece of baggage is an industry standard. It does not relate to your overall entitlement but is a safety measure to reduce injuries to baggage handling staff. Any item over 32kgs will require repacking
- Each piece of baggage should not exceed total dimensions (length + width + height) of 158cm (62")
CABIN BAGGAGE
In addition to your allowance, you may also carry on board personal items such as an overcoat, handbag, walking stick, camera or slimline laptop. As a safety precaution, all cabin baggage must be able to fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you. Laptops in a thin satchel are considered a personal item, however, laptops in larger computer bags are counted as one piece of cabin baggage.

Children information
Do I need to reserve a seat for my infant?
Children under 2 years (24 months), are not required to have their own seat. You must, however, inform Air New Zealand that you will be traveling with an infant on your lap. Lap children can only be held by passengers who are at least 15 years of age.
Only one lap child is allowed per adult. If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under 2 years of age, a seat will have to be purchased for each additional infant.
You can also choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device.
Please note: the Business Premier lie-flat seat is sideways-facing and therefore, the seatbelt has an airbag in it. This means infant car seats are not able to be used in the Business Premier lie-flat seats on the refitted B747and B777 aircraft as it would impede the deployment of the airbag in the event of an emergency. Infants younger than 2 years old are still able to be seated on their guardian's lap and will be provided with a specially designed infant seat belt which will not inhibit the safety features of the airbag seat belt.
We have a toddler aged 1 year, do we have to pay additional ticket for the kid?
A child under 2 years old (24 months) can travel for free within New Zealand as long as the infant will be on the lap of a passenger older than 15 years for the flight.
For international flights a child under 2 years old (24 months) is usually charged 10% of an adult fare plus taxes, even if the infant will be on the lap of another passenger for the flight.
What if my child turns 2 on the trip; will I have to buy a ticket for the return flight?
Yes, a ticket will have to be purchased for any flight on which the infant will be over 2 years old.
Baggage allowance
Infants are entitled to the same baggage allowance as the accompanying adult but not entitled to any additional allowance linked with accompanying adult frequent flyer tier status. Infants cannot purchase excess baggage.
Pets
Due to space limitations on Air New Zealand Link services, only one cage per customer will be accepted for travel.
What methods of transport does Air New Zealand provide for my pet?
- Checked as baggage in pressurized and temperature controlled area of your aircraft.
- Shipped as cargo in pressurized and temperature controlled area.
Does my pet qualify for travel as checked baggage?
Pets that meet the following qualifications can travel as checked baggage:
- Cats, dogs and small caged birds can travel as checked in baggage on all domestic services.
- Your pet can comfortably remain in its kennel for the entire flight.
- The kennel meets all requirements (see below for more information) and the combined weight of the animal and kennel does not exceed 70 lb/32 kg (for some aircraft only).
- If traveling on a Boeing aircraft, kennel dimensions do not exceed 84cm x 130cm.
- If traveling on an Airbus aircraft, kennel dimensions do not exceed 46cm x 60cm x 72cm.
- Your pet has all necessary health documents required by your destination (see below for more information).
Does my pet qualify to be shipped as cargo?
If your pet does not meet the requirements for travel as checked baggage, or if you would like your pet to travel unaccompanied, contact Air New Zealand Cargo for more information.
On international flights, pets are not permitted as checked in baggage and must travel as Cargo.
What are the fees associated with pet transport?
- Fee for kennel and pets weighing less than 70 lb/32 kg: NZ $50 one way
- Fee for kennel and pets weighing more than 70 lb/32 kg: NZ $75 one way
What are the kennel requirements?
In addition to the size and weight maximums, below are some other kennel requirements:
- Be leak-proof and escape-proof.
- Be properly ventilated, but not allow any part of the animal from protruding outside of the container.
- Provide enough room for the animal to stand and turn around.
- Be made of metal, wood, or a hard plastic/composite.
- Contain absorbent material or litter.
What health documentation is required?
Many places require health documents. As it is the passenger's responsibility to be aware of all regulations, you should consult your veterinarian and the local Embassy to ensure that your animal will comply with all requirements.
Are there any other restrictions?
Air New Zealand can refuse to transport an animal due to illness, aggressive behavior, poor kenneling, or extreme temperatures at origin, transfer, or destination airports.
